Chamber event turns spotlight on Black Country’s women leaders

Businesswomen from across the Black Country are being invited to an event that promises to challenge, inspire and equip them with practical tools to lead with greater confidence and authenticity.

The Black Country Chamber of Commerce Women in Leadership event, Be Your Authentic Self, will explore how women in business can remain authentic when faced with challenges.

The session will be led by Jessica Shields, a West Midlands-based leadership coach with more than a decade of experience working with leaders across education, healthcare, the NHS and the not-for-profit sector.

Her interactive presentation on June 25 will tackle some of the most common challenges women face in leadership — including building a supportive professional network and how to develop genuine confidence and resilience without pretending to be someone you’re not.

Sarah Moorhouse from the chamber, said the event would run from 11.30am to 2pm and be followed by a panel discussion with leading Black Country business women.

“This event is for women at any stage of their career — whether you’re stepping into leadership for the first time or looking to reconnect with what makes you effective as a leader. Jessica brings real depth and warmth to these conversations and we’re delighted to have such a strong panel joining her.”

“Jessica has extensive experience of coaching leaders across a range of sectors and brings deep knowledge of some of the challenges women face in leadership roles, such as not having to “put on a face” when things get tough and healthy ways to lean on your peers.”

A panel discussion and audience Q&A will follow, featuring Jessica alongside Sophie Wardell, people director at Higgs LLP and a HR leader whose work focuses on building inclusive, high-performing cultures,  Jeni Sellick, a flexible workspace specialist with more than 26 years’ experience building business communities across the UK and Lucy Rook, the managing director of BlackRook Academy and chair of the chamber’s Women in Leadership Steering Group.

The event – which will also include networking and lunch – is being supported by the University of Wolverhampton and hosted by law firm Higgs LLP at 3 Waterfront Business Park, Brierley Hill, DY5 1LX, with tickets costing £25 for chamber members and £35 for non‑members (excl. VAT).
