A much-loved independent school is marking another landmark year of growth and success, driven by its vision, investment, and unwavering commitment to putting pupils first.
Despite ongoing national pressures across the education sector, St Gerard’s School in Bangor continues to thrive. The school has invested significantly in facilities, wellbeing support, teaching staff, and wider educational provision to maintain its reputation for delivering first-class education in a supportive and welcoming community.
Recent developments across its seven-acre site include a £150,000 multi-use sports facility, a fully refurbished Sixth Form suite and library, improved parking and heating systems, and a bold, modern rebrand reflecting its forward-thinking ethos.
Further enhancing the learning experience, the school is currently creating a brand-new radio studio, giving pupils the chance to produce and broadcast their own podcasts.
To complement its growth, St Gerard’s has expanded its teaching team — particularly within sport — strengthening both its physical education programme and wider co-curricular opportunities.
Headteacher Campbell Harrison said: “At a time when many independent schools are navigating challenges, St Gerard’s has chosen to invest in its future.
“Our focus is, and always will be, on our pupils and their academic success, wellbeing, and personal growth.
“By investing in our facilities, staff, and resources, we are ensuring that every pupil benefits from a supportive and inspiring environment where they can achieve their very best.”
The school has recorded yet another rise in pupil numbers, including a significant increase in Sixth Form enrolment, building on a year of exceptional academic performance.
In summer 2025, pupils achieved record GCSE and A Level results, with GCSE grades more than 50% above the national average for A–A*. St Gerard’s also remains ranked among the Top 10 schools in Wales in the Sunday Times Parent Power Guide.
Alongside academic excellence, the school places strong emphasis on wellbeing, personal development, and community values — supported through its extensive co-curricular programme, nurturing pastoral care, and inclusive culture.
Business Manager Steve Griffiths added: “This has been a year of resilience, collaboration, and long-term planning. Every investment we’ve made – from new learning spaces and sports facilities to sustainable heating and staff recruitment – reflects our commitment to the pupils, families, and community who make St Gerard’s so special.
“We are realising a shared vision: to secure the school’s future and continue delivering the highest standards of independent education in North Wales.”
The school’s close partnership with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) continues to be a key part of its identity. St Gerard’s is the only school subsidised by the MoD for transport to and from Holyhead airbase and remains a trusted choice for generations of service families.
